Our restaurant has a remarkable story. Two individuals took a leap of faith, investing in their dreams to create something truly unique. They chose to establish their restaurant in the rustic charm of Knoflokskraal, nestled in the picturesque hills of the Overberg, just outside Grabouw. Initially, they started with nothing but an empty plot and a bold vision. However, through their dedication and hard work, they transformed the space into a stunning location within just a few months.

Skinnerbek Coffeeshop is truly off-grid, featuring neither electricity nor running water. Nestled high in the mountains, this charming spot is surrounded by trees and natural beauty.
At Skinnerbek Coffeeshop, you’ll immerse yourself in peace, and harmony.
So, how did this all begin? It started as a simple joke, a whimsical dream. In the heart of Knoflokskraal (13km from Grabouw), a massive fire erupted during the summer of 2022. After battling the flames, Deon and Jannie returned home to savor a cup of coffee in the garden. As Jannie approached with two cups, Deon stood waiting with a burned tray in hand, playfully asking, “Good day sir, will it be a table for two?” After sharing a laugh, Jannie suggested, “Why not build our own coffee shop?” So they immediately got to work. Remarkably, within just two months, on September 1, 2022, the doors of Skinnerbek Coffeeshop swung open.
Fresh coffee paired with a slice of Carrot Cake quickly became the people’s favorite. As a result, Skinnerbek’s popularity soared. Since February ’23, our guests have delighted in delicious breakfasts, Prime Hamburgers, and three-course meals for special occasions such as weddings, work functions, birthday parties, year-end celebrations, and even divorce parties! Additionally, we offer catering for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Christmas lunches.
Skinnerbek Koffiehuis promises a unique experience. By night, you can gather around the firepit, gazing at the bright stars in Jan Se Gat. This moment is further enhanced by fresh ‘braaibrood’ and ‘Moercoffee.’ Why not call up and visit us? We’re confident you won’t regret it!
